At first I read all blog articles of Steven Sinofsky (Building Windows 8). Then I decided to do two things - Try to install Win 8 DP on a virtual machine (VMWare Workstation 8 seems to be tested by Microsoft - Running Windows 8 Developer Preview in a virtual environment)
- Buy one of the test devices to get the real touch feeling (look at the Windows 8 test hardware - Experiencing Windows 8 touch on Windows 7 hardware)
Installation of Win 8 DP in VMWare Workstation 8 There are many how-to-install-win8dp-on-vmware articels out there (i.e. google for “windows 8 vmware install”). I followed this how-to. Here is the timeline of my installation: 12:40: Creating a new VM 12:41: Starting the installation 12:43: Copying and expanding -Dialog is shown 12:50: Installing features and updates 12:54: Restarting 12:56: Personalizing 12:57: Ready! UPDATE: Installed VMWare Tools without the SVGA-Driver because it seems currently not to work.
Buy a Win 8 DP capable test device I do not want to buy my final Win 8 DP device, but a device for playing around and getting some experience with Win 8 in the next couple of months, until Win 8 will be final. So i started browsing in eBay and bought a Asus EP 121, because it seems to be good compromise between costs and capabilities. Now i am waiting for it
